About Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic treatment involves techniques of spinal manipulation and joint mobilization to restore normal function and mobility to the body.
The principles of chiropractic promote optimal health and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Animals benefit from chiropractic treatment just as humans do, as they can suffer from injuries related to poor conformation, overexertion, or just having too much fun! Young animals can injure themselves through exuberant play, while dogs involved in agility sports such as flyball and disc catching may sustain any number of traumas and repetitive strain injuries. Older animals may suffer from arthritis, and by trying to shift their weight away from painful joints they may cause secondary problems in their backs and limbs.
Dogs in need of chiropractic adjustment are often not lame but may seem stiff when first getting up, or may be reluctant to use the stairs or jump up onto furniture or into the car. They might be carrying their heads or tails in a different way, or moving with an unusual gait. Dogs involved in sporting activities may be performing below their usual levels, or may be refusing jumps or other obstacles that previously had been cleared without a problem.
